Strawberry season is here and Over Farm Market has plenty ready for the picking. And just in case anyone needed encouragement to enjoy strawberries whilst they are available, I’ve put a (really simple) recipe together to make use of these delicious berries as well as some of the other ingredients stocked at Over Farm Market.
Strawberries are bursting with goodness and did you know, their leaves can be eaten too? Some people use them to make tea! The berries are packed with antioxidants which protect against cancer and heart disease, which is a great reason to eat your way through a handful (or a punnet if you’re anything like me), right?
If you’re picking your own, then seek out those that are plump with a deep red colour. Strawberries don’t continue to ripen once picked, so avoid dull ones, or those that have green or yellow patches.
Now, the recipe I’ve put together is a take on the traditional English dessert of Eton mess. I’ve jazzed it up with a couple of extra ingredients and served it up in a jar because it looks rather special; plus, you can always pop the lid on and take it on a picnic! As I said, all the ingredients for this recipe are available from the farm shop, so it couldn’t be any easier.
If you make this Eton mess, I’d love to see your pics, so get sharing on Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag of #JamJarEtonMess. Enjoy!
