Lots of people can bake cakes and the like, but not many people can make them as damn tasty (and gooey when it comes to the brownies) as Henrietta, the talent behind Hetty’s Tea Party.
I’m not really into delicate, fancy cakes filled with flavourings and colourings, and covered in rock-hard icing, butterflies and flowers. I want my cakes to be big on flavour, homemade and fresh, and that’s exactly what you can expect from Hetty’s Tea Party.
All of Hetty’s cakes are made with the best (and local) ingredients, which are always cooked up fresh. So fresh in fact, they’re likely to still be warm from the oven. And this girl ain’t half busy. She attends (and sells at) lots of local markets and festivals and she’s also in demand, supplying super dooper places like Gloucester Services and Over Farm Market with her cakes.
We picked up some treats from Hetty one sunny Sunday at Gloucester Quays Street Food and Craft Market and got them home quick to enjoy with a cup of tea out in the garden. We took the best part of ten minutes deciding what to buy, as we could have happily eaten everything in sight, but we limited ourselves to just four pieces of naughtiness.
We chose the Oreo Blondie, a Chocolate & Honeycomb Meringue, a slice of Lemon Drizzle & Blueberry cake and a gooey piece of Peanut Butter Brownie.
Heaven. That is all.
Well actually, no that’s not all, but it’s a good start. The blondie – which I’ve tried cooking at home before with little success – was just so flippin’ tasty. The meringue was the best one we’ve ever had, and yes it was all soft and gooey in the middle – just as they should be. The drizzle cake was perfectly moist and as for the brownie – well let’s just say I saved it ‘til last and licked my fingers well to devour every last bit!
By the way, if you can’t conjure up the energy to go out of the house, Hetty delivers brownies to your door too!
