The Ox in Cheltenham
threw a bash to launch their Summer Twists cocktail menu. The invite landed in
my inbox:
We don’t want to tempt fate, but with the recent run of good
weather it’s starting to feel like Summer is well and truly around the corner.
To celebrate we’ve created a brand new Summer cocktail menu…
As the working week drew to a close, the team
at The Ox set up a cocktail bar on the alfresco terrace, and at 5pm prompt, the
weekend began and the heavens opened, so it really did feel like a proper
British summer!
Huddled under the giant parasols, and with the
outdoor heaters on, we were handed our first cocktail. Kingsley had the Ox
Shandy and I had a Pimms. The menu, which was created by Will, the bar manager,
consists of all the old favourites, and each cocktail has been given a summer
twist. For example, the Ox Shandy is made with Wild Beer from The Wild Beer Co,
ginger ale, and peach and citrus bitters.
We worked hard – very hard I might add - and tried every single cocktail on the menu
bar one.
My personal favourite being An Alcopop, which
is nothing like those sugary bottle of fizz I use to drink as a teeny-bopper (I
can’t believe I’ve just used that term; a sure sign I’m getting really old!).
Kingsley’s favourite was the Daiquiri which I
was quite partial to as well (partly because I absolutely love the coupe glass
it’s served in). It has a dash of paprika and sumac tincture and we loved the
smokiness this gave the drink.
So with summer (hopefully) stretching out
ahead of us, there’ll be ample opportunity to enjoy this cocktail menu in the sunny
setting for which it was intended.
