You may have noticed there’s another new place in town: Montpellier Lodge which is the former park-keepers house in Montpellier Gardens.
A few weeks back we gate-crashed a casual opening party they held and loved what they had done to turn the derelict house they started with, into a cosy and beautiful restaurant. We got to speak to the owners and the staff, nibble on canapes (my favourite being their homemade gnocchi) and drink fizz. It was all very lovely and I promised I’d be back to dine in the restaurant as soon as possible, first of all for a coffee and light bite and at a later date for their Sunday lunch.
So over the bank holiday weekend I arranged to meet a friend there for coffee and a catch-up.
They aren’t a coffee and cake sort of place, but they do do breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner, so everything else it catered for. We met quite early, and I’d already had a small breakfast at home, so whilst my friend supped away on a latte and we put the world to rights, I tucked into my second breakfast of Toasted Artisan Bread and Butter. It also came with miniature pots of honey, marmalade and jam.
Our waiter was ever so attentive and I’m really looking forward to going back for one of their roast dinners – which you’ll obviously get to hear about. But I just wanted to do this very little blog post in the meantime to introduce you to them and to let you know they are open for business from breakfast through to dinner time.
