Local Eat Treats #20 Lunch in the Wine Bar at Moran’s

Before you read on, I should probably warn you - this lunch in a wine bar doesn’t actually involve any wine; you see, Moran’s is not just a fabulous restaurant, and wine bar, but also a great place for a coffee shop style stop-off. By daylight, it really is best described as a bloody good coffee shop that also serves tapas and wine!

Our visit was on a beautiful, sunny, autumnal day and it would have been lovely to sit out the front and watch the world go by, but another customer nabbed the last free table as we walked through the door so we found two very comfy chairs inside instead – I can’t complain, I think we had the comfiest spot in the whole place.

It was the savouries and (many many) cakes on the counter that caught my eye, whereas Kingsley ordered a wrap from the menu. I had a Chicken, Smoked Bacon and Coriander Sausage Roll to start. I’m not going to lie, I picked it purely based on the fact it was big and was encased in lots of lovely flaky pastry; and when it arrived, the taste impressed me too. Kingsley ordered the Crayfish, Avocado and Lemon Mayonnaise Wrap served with Pickled Cucumber – he didn’t comment much, too busy eating as usual, but he did love the Pickled Cucumber.

I followed my Sausage Roll up with a slice of Chocolate Caramel Shortbread – because I no longer have the worry of fitting into a size-too-small wedding dress; and thank goodness I don’t, because this slice would be better described as a small country! Don’t worry though, what with my hearty appetite, I managed to finish the lot, with just an incy wincy bit of help from Kingsley. If you like sickly stuff, this is the wedge for you; that caramel layer is something else, there are hazelnuts in it too providing a delicious crunch amongst all the gooeyness.

With Christmas party season approaching, I wouldn’t mind returning to try a few of the tapas and maybe a glass or two of wine!
