|A Mai Tai and White Lady|
The Daffodil is a restaurant and cocktail bar in The Suffolks area of Cheltenham. It first opened its doors in the 1920s as a picture palace with stylish Art Deco décor. Since then it has served as a bingo hall, an antique furniture centre and since 1996 it has been known as one of finest places to eat in Cheltenham with much of its original features and fittings restored and reinstated.
Other than it being a Friday evening, we had nothing in particular to celebrate, so no excuse to book a table, but we did enjoy a couple of cocktails in The Circle Bar which occupies the mezzanine circle balcony and commands great views over the restaurant below. The staff could not have been more helpful. They saw us umming and ahing over the cocktail menu and came to our rescue by asking us what our favourite tipples were and the sorts of flavours we liked. A few minutes later, I was presented with a White Lady, which wasn’t on the menu but he knew would suit me down to the ground – and it did! And for Kingsley, he made up one of their timeless classics, a Mai Tai, which was pretty damn good too!
The Circle Bar has a really relaxed atmosphere and is a very stylish place to have drinks, so no doubt, we’ll be back in the not too distant future! In fact, they hire it out for private parties and I’m 30 this year. Hmm, now there’s an idea!
